FUN FACT: 🍉 In Japan, some farmers grow square watermelons! They place the melons into square glass boxes while they’re still growing, so they take on the shape of the mold. They were originally invented in the 1970s by a farmer who wanted them to stack more easily in refrigerators. They’re now also grown in heart shapes, pyramids, and even face shapes!
The funny twist? They’re usually too expensive to eat, sometimes selling for over US$100 each, so most of them end up as decorative display pieces or luxury gifts rather than actual food.
