Reflecting on 10 Years of Accessible Japan
This year marks ten years since I launched Accessible Japan, a website dedicated to providing clear, practical information on accessibility for travelers visiting Japan. When I first arrived in Japan in 2007, navigating accessibility as a wheelchair user was challenging due to limited information in English. In 2015, I started Accessible Japan as a personal blog to address this gap, hoping it might help others facing similar challenges.
Over the past decade, the project has grown beyond my initial expectations. It now offers detailed reviews of hotels, attractions, and service providers, becoming a trusted resource for travelers with disabilities worldwide. I've also had the opportunity to collaborate closely with businesses, government committees, and tourism organizations to advocate for improved accessibility and inclusive travel experiences in Japan.
Looking back, I’m grateful for the supportive community that's developed around Accessible Japan. My goal remains simple: ensuring everyone can confidently explore and enjoy Japan.
